I often get teased for wearing my chunky, mint headphones everywhere I go. My fiancé, Bryan, gave them to me for Hanukkah three years ago and I’ve barely taken them off since. Nice work, Bryan.
What people don’t often realize, though, is that it’s not always music coming from those Bose badboys. A lot of the time, it’s a Podcast.

Like thousands of others, I got exposed to Podcasts from the media sensation, Serial. It was huge. Everyone was talking about it. We giggled about the catchy “Mailcimp” ad and debated Adnan’s innocence. For the first time, I realized I could kick back and listen to captivating stories all while doing the dishes, using the StairMaster or commuting to work. I was hooked.
As a seasoned Podcast listener, I’ve narrowed down my three most recent favorites. I cherish them so much that I often forget that the hosts don’t know me. I’m quite particular about the style I like, so when I find one I love, I scream it from the rooftops.

I think I tell at least two women a week about Being Boss. It is such an earnest, comprehensible Podcast about being a creative entrepreneur and the challenges that come with it. I feel more knowledgeable every time I listen to it, and I also fall more in love with the hosts, Kathleen and Emily, too!
StartUp takes hold of my heart over and over again. Maybe it’s because I’ve now worked for four different startups, but the glories and pitfalls just speak to me.
Twenty-five percent of the time, I want to slap the Producer, Alex Blumberg, in the face. Seventy-five percent of the time, I want to give him a hug. One hundred percent of the time, I want to be best friends with his wife, Nazanin, forever and ever. Nonetheless, all of the staff does a fabulous job of highlighting stories from different startups, including their own.
Wendy Zukerman, where were you when I cried through honors chem? Her voice is a true delight and she makes me want to question everything in this world. I feel like such a smartypants every time I listen in and I barely have to lift a finger.
P.S. Science Vs. is one of Gimlet Media’s Podcasts! You can hear how Gimlet got started in the StartUp Podcast above.
