I’ve been preaching my fashion philosophy for years. It goes as follows:
“If you can pull it on, you can pull it off.”
If there’s one thing I know I can do, it’s “pull things off.” Hats, scarves, overalls, jumpsuits, headbands… you name it. Want to know how? Because I decided I can.
I believe that, “pulling things off,” is a made-up rule women constrain themselves to. We fear that other women will look at our outfits and whisper, “what is she wearing??”
I am sure this has been said about me many times, and honestly, I’m doing alright. Furthermore, what if we all women were to ban together to stop the trash talk? That’s a goal for another time…
Here’s a picture of my best friend (to this day) and I in high school (Me right, her left). This is one of those instances where even I look at this and think, “what on Earth am I wearing?” But hey, it was a total original!
I hope you’ll all do yourself the kind favor of throwing out the “pull-off rule,” out the window. Buy something you love that’s out of your repertoire and promise yourself you’ll actually wear it. I think you’ll be surprised at how many compliments you’ll receive!
As for my ‘look’, I dress for mood and comfort, and most importantly, for myself. I am by no means a fashion expert, but I find what’s most flattering and abandon the fear of whether my outfit is “too out there,” or “not my style.” The pay off is feeling like my style is mine and only mine.
Here’s a look I’ve been mixing and matching with a lot lately. Admittedly, I’m pretty self-conscious about my midriff, so I love a big, comfy cover-up. Believe it or not, the kimono is from Charlotte Russe!
The ripped jeans are one of those items I wear ALL. THE. TIME. They wear and wash so nicely and they make every outfit a little more edgy and fun.
