The subject of personal health is a sensitive one. Everyone has their own theories, stories, and experiences, and I am no different.
For me, I’ve spent years feeling like a hamster on a wheel; peddling away with exercise and diets, mantras and theories, only to feel the exact same way: dissatisfied.
My outlook on health, self-esteem and personal fitness are constantly evolving. I believe in eating completely naturally, but I have a really hard time sustaining a good diet in my insanely busy life.
What makes matters worse is that there’s so much mixed-messaging on how we should look, how we should feel, and how we should get there. I find myself toggling between sticking to a diet while weeping over a Victoria’s Secret ad, to giving up and eating a tub of ice cream over a Dove video; always shifting from beating myself up about my appearance, to settling and trying to accept it.
Through years of uncertainty about my weight and health, the only thing I know for damn sure is that I still don’t like how I look.
But I have good news. You know what? Let’s call it great news!
For the first time in a really long time, I feel like I’m onto something.
I was recently introduced to Talia, the Holistic Health Coach and Blogger behind Party in My Plants, and she has been giving me tremendous hope.
It started with her relatable and adorable Instagram posts (seriously, look at how cute she is). She shares all of these delicious-looking plant-based meals, and she genuinely makes them seem enjoyable and doable. Her mantra is to “take the HELL out of HELLthy eating,” and I couldn’t be more ready to hop on that bandwagon with her.
The best part of it all? After reading through her bio, I literally had this epiphany:
“Wait a minute, she was exactly like me!”
(Ok, maybe not exactly like me. I’m not sure if she ever cried over a tub of ice cream while watching a Dove video)
Talia didn’t emerge on this earth with a kale smoothie in hand. She’s “a girl whom, through trials, tribulations (and lots of tea
After weeks of becoming enamored with her posts and emails– I decided to reach out to her about becoming my health coach. If I was seriously going to try to get off that hamster wheel and onto an actual path, I was going to need professional help… and luckily, Talia enthusiastically agreed. She’ll start coaching me at the end of the month.
I share these thoughts not on the right side of a before and after, but in the midst of my journey. I’m not standing here in the “after” shot, wagging my finger at what the “right thing,” to do is because I’m still figuring out what’s right for me. What I do know is that I’m SO ready to take on a plan that revolves around eating holistically because it’s something I believe in deeply.
I can’t wait to share every step of the way with you all, and hopefully share my transformation; even if it’s only internal. I hope it inspires you try finding a new path that brings you joy and success!
